Response to Covid19: Helping vulnerable families in Africa
Through Sarah’s Trust, the Duchess of York has been working alongside Humanitas to protect and prevent the spread of Covid19 in poverty stricken communities in Ghana where families are desperately trying to protect themselves against a pandemic, without the resources of the western world.
Communities living in rural villages like Ayensuako, where there is very limited access to the most basic health provision and the nearest hospital is a three hour drive away. The families living there are extremely vulnerable to any medical pandemic, but with support from Sarah’s Trust, Humanitas has been able to deliver vital supplies to the village.
Every family in the village now has a pack of essential supplies including medication, soap, vitamins, cleaning wipes, hand sanitiser, rice and other non perishable foods, to help them to stay safe and well during this extremely worrying time. So far Sarah’s Trust has helped over 900 children and adults to better protect themselves against the spread of Covid19 and is committed to working with Humanitas to ensure that vulnerable communities in Ghana are as safe as they can be during these unprecedented times.
